DEPARTMENT INTRODUCTION
General surgery is a discipline that includes the surgical treatment of systemic and local problems in the body, as well as general principles (such as wound healing, metabolic and endocrine response to injury) and has influenced many branches of surgery and basic medicine in terms of their development. It is a surgical specialty that focuses on intra-abdominal organs, including the esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, liver, pancreas, gallbladder and biliary tract. In addition, the thyroid, peripheral vessels, breast, trauma, soft tissue, skin and hernias are also studied.

CLINICAL DESCRIPTION
Süleyman Demirel University Department of General Surgery performs more than 2000 surgical procedures every year. Patient care is provided in the ward with 39 beds and surgical procedures are performed in the operating room every day of the week. Emergency surgical procedures are performed by the team on duty regardless of day and time. Local procedures are also performed in the local procedure room every day of the week.
Our clinic has 2 professor doctors, 1 associate professor doctor and 2 Assistant Professors (Assistant Professor) and research assistant doctors.
Our doctors work in close collaboration with other specialists to diagnose complex cases and perform timely surgical procedures on each patient.
The most important goal of our clinic is to provide the highest quality and innovative medical care and to provide the highest quality of care for our students and residents.

HISTORY
Our clinic was founded in 1994 by Prof. Dr. Neşet Hayri Gökok, who came to Isparta at the request of our 9th President Mr. Süleyman Demirel. Prof. Gökok was a faculty member at Gazi University Faculty of Medicine, General Surgery Clinic at that time.

CLINICAL and MULTIDISCIPLINARY MEETINGS (COUNCILS)
General Surgery Council
On Wednesdays, which is the training day, between 9:00-10:00 a.m., grand rounds are held with the participation of all faculty members, research assistants, interns and intern doctors. Between 10:00-12:00, weekly surgeries are discussed in the clinical council, and presentations prepared by faculty members, residents and interns are made with the participation of the entire clini


Hepatobiliary Council
It is held every Wednesday between 12:15-13:00 with the participation of faculty members and resident physicians from the Departments of Pathology, Nuclear Medicine, Gastroenterology, General Surgery and Radiology.

Oncology and Breast Endocrine Council
Every Wednesday, between 13:30-14:30, with the participation of General Surgery, Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Radiology, Nuclear Medicine and Pathology.

POLICLINICS and PATIENT CARE SERVICES
General Surgery Outpatient Clinic
Senior general surgery residents and the faculty member in charge of the week accept, follow-up and treat patients in coordination. The tests requested as a result of the examinations performed in the morning are evaluated in the afternoon and dressings are made.

Faculty Member Polyclinic
Faculty members provide outpatient clinic services to patients who apply to them, except for their own operation days. Appointments can be made at the General Surgery outpatient clinic secretariat (Tel: 0246 211 91 91, outpatient clinic building, platform number 4).

Surgical Oncology Outpatient Clinic
Faculty members and sub-specialty assistants provide outpatient clinic services to oncologic patients who apply to our department every day.

Organ Transplant Service and Polyclinic
In the 6-bed organ transplant service, which includes 6 single rooms, patients to be transplanted and those who have already been transplanted are followed up. Wednesdays are outpatient clinic days and medical services are provided by faculty members, assistant doctors and other healthcare professionals experienced in transplantation.

Service
In the 39-bed general surgery ward, which includes 4 single, 14 double and one each of 3 and 4 patient rooms; faculty members, assistants, interns, 13 nurses and 4 staff members provide service.

Emergency
24 hours a day, 7 days a week, on-call general surgery assistants and the responsible faculty member evaluate the consultations requested from the emergency, ensure hospitalization to the ward and perform emergency surgeries.

Operating Room
Surgical treatments are performed half day on Wednesdays, which is the training day, and full day 4 days a week.

Burn Center
There are very few burn centers in our country. In our institution, all minor and major burn patients are provided with services in accordance with current treatment algorithms by experienced faculty members who are experts in burns. Efforts are underway to open a burn center. Burn patients are admitted 24/7 in emergency cases and outpatients are admitted 5 days a week during all outpatient clinic hours.

SURGERIES PERFORMED
Colorectal Surgery
Diseases diagnosed and treated in colorectal surgery; small and large intestine cancers, ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease, anal fistula, fissure, abscesses, hemorrhoids, anal incontinence (incontinence) surgery.

Laparoscopic (Closed) Surgery
It is surgery performed with a video camera and long, thin instruments. The surgery is performed by looking at the image that the camera transmits to a television monitor. So the camera is the surgeon's eye. Diseases treated with laparoscopic surgery for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes; cholelithiasis (gallstones), colon and rectum cancers, gastroesophageal reflux and diaphragmatic hernias, hernias, appendicitis, achalasia, stomach cancers, obesity and metabolic surgery, surrenal adenoma (adrenal gland tumors), Laparoscopic surgery is performed in all possible surgical procedures including intra-abdominal lymph node biopsies, spleen surgery, TOEPVA and TOETVA (Endoscopic Surgery in Thyroid and Parathyroid Diseases), Gynecomastia, Liver, Pancreas, breast surgeries.

Hepatopancreatobiliary Surgery
Diseases diagnosed and treated in hepatopancreatobiliary surgery; liver cancer, cysts and masses, stones, inflammation and tumors of the gallbladder and ducts, pancreatic inflammation and cancer.

Obesity and Metabolic Surgery
Obesity, which is becoming increasingly common in the world and has become one of the world's most important health problems, is a preventable health problem. Obesity, i.e. obesity, significantly affects the quality and duration of life. Obesity, which is the most important health problem in the world, especially in developed countries, is now among the important health problems in our country. Metabolic surgery is the surgical treatment of metabolic syndrome characterized by diabetes, overweight, high blood pressure and high cholesterol levels. Obesity is a treatable disease and its surgical treatment requires advanced expertise and experience. Süleyman Demirel University Faculty of Medicine, Department of General Surgery aims to fight obesity with the joint approach of many branches and offers different surgical alternatives to patients with its experienced team especially in obesity surgery.

Transplantation
The first kidney transplant was performed by Dr. M.Zafer SABUNCUOĞLU in August 2015 and the first liver transplant was performed by Dr. M.Zafer SABUNCUOĞLU in November 2015 in our clinic and the patients were discharged with healing. Organ transplantation surgeries are still being carried out successfully.

Burn and Wound Care
As of April 2019, Dr. İsa SÖZEN, a faculty member specializing in burn and wound care, started working in our clinic, and all kinds of burn treatment are applied in patients referred from the surrounding health institutions.
